Democratic senators decided to get rid of the judicial filibuster eight years ago. The result was a spate of new right-wing judges under Donald Trump. Now Democrats want to get rid of the legislative filibuster as well. Why do they think this will work out any better?
Kids in Cages: under New Management
One of the major scandals of the Trump administration was that they imprisoned children and other people crossing the southern border into the United States in what were effectively dog cages. Experts on immigration warned Joe Biden that there would be an influx of migration following his inauguration, but he failed to plan ahead. Now Trump’s old dog cages are being used again.
True Horror, Courtesy of the Cabinet of Dr. Biden
Bernie Sanders proposed a monthly stimulus of $2000, hardly a king’s ransom when you consider that tens of millions of people have lost their jobs entirely. Instead, Joe Biden promised $2000, one time, and then reduced it to $1400 after taking into account $600 paid out by Donald Trump toward the end of his term. Now he’s caving in to moderate Democrats like Joe Manchin of West Virginia and subjecting the payments to increased means testing. The patient, the American economy, is dying. But there’s no sense of urgency whatsoever on the part of the White House or the US Congress.
Got Guillotines?
Assuming the Democrats get their way, and that’s highly unlikely, their proposal for the minimum wage isn’t really for $15 an hour. It’s for $15 an hour eventually, four years or five years from now. And the Democrats seem to be about to give that up as it is. When it comes to not doing anything for the working class, there’s lots of bipartisanship.
In Afghanistan, the Lesser of Two Evils Is Anything but
One year ago, the Trump administration signed a deal with the Taliban in Afghanistan in which they agreed to stop attacking American troops in exchange for a complete US withdrawal. Indeed, no US troops have died in Afghanistan since then. Now the Biden Administration is hinting that they may decide to go back on the deal.
