Now it’s the third year of the pandemic and everyone is getting one. If it’s the thought that counts, there hasn’t been much thought.
If We Were on the Other Side of the Ukraine-Russia Crisis
First the United States and its allies pressure Russia by placing missiles in Poland, near its border. Then the West tries to expand NATO right up to the Russian border, by inviting Ukraine to join. When the Russians respond by massing troops along their own border, we have the unmitigated nerve to say that they are provoking us.
Press Freedom for Us, Not for Assange
A judge has ordered the New York Times to exercise prior restraint in publishing materials that originated with Project Veritas, the right-wing hidden-camera organization. Newspapers and First Amendment groups are understandably concerned, but it’s hard to take them seriously about press freedom when they ignore, underplay or outright smear WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange, who is literally dying in a British prison awaiting extradition to the United States for espionage charges related to his journalism.
Both Political Parties Have Their Own Big Lie
Republicans adhere to the “big lie” that Joe Biden cheated Donald Trump out of the 2020 election. Meanwhile, Democrats adhere to a big lie of their own, namely that Donald Trump cheated Hillary Clinton out of the 2016 election. Clinton didn’t help when she recently read the speech she had prepared for her 2016 “victory.”
