2020 is the new 2016

Is it 2016 all over again? Attention is focused on the chaos within the GOP. But the Democratic Party is an even bigger mess. The DNC is still controlled by the corporate Hillary Clinton wing of the party but the energy and momentum of the party is with the progressive Bernie Sanders voters. Now the DNC is teeing up California Senator Kamala Harris as a potential candidate for 2020. But progressives don’t like her ties to Wall Street banks or her reluctance to embrace economic populism. Here we go again?

What if the anti-Trump “Resistance” was a Real Thing?

Left-of-center news outlets like The Guardian and organizations like MoveOn are marketing opposition to Trump as “The Resistance,” which evokes memories of the militant fighters of the Resistance in France and other Nazi-occupied countries during World War II. But they’re far from analogous, especially in terms of militancy. What if someone took The Resistance seriously insofar as its over-the-top name?

De-empathize Empathy

An anonymous Google employee has written a widely-circulated 10-page manifesto against Google’s diversity policies, claiming, among other things, that gaps in gender representation may be based in part on women’s supposedly more emotional nature than men’s. This controversy isn’t new. Nor is the assertion that the company needs more ideological diversity, in other words, more respect for conservative views.

Worried About North Korea? Think How They Feel

American foreign policy analysts are understandably worried that North Korea now has intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States. Given that their president is given to bellicose rhetoric and has prioritized his nation’s military program over domestic needs, they wonder if an attack is inevitable, in which case the United States would be well-advised to strike first. The problem is, everything we worry about is something the North Koreans could just as easily say about us.

Welcome to the White House. Now Get Out.

Donald Trump’s White House is rapidly becoming a revolving door. Anthony Scaramucci lasted just ten days as Communications Director. Homeland Security secretary John Kelly replaced Reince Priebus as Chief of Staff. Press Secretary Sean Spicer quit because Scaramucci came in; does this mean he might come back? Trump fired FBI director James Comey; now he’s gunning for Attorney General Jeff Sessions, or perhaps looking to scoot him into Kelly’s old gig as head of DHS. It’s getting to be like, you can’t tell all the players without a program.

Investigating the Investigators

Special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating Trump. So Trump is investigating Mueller. Can we play turnaround with law enforcement too?

How Transgender Soldiers Destroy Unit Cohesion

Donald Trump plans to ban transgender soldiers from the military. The reason he gives for this move is twofold. First, he claims paying for transitions is too expensive. But the military doesn’t cover them. He also thinks troops will be distracted from their duties by the mere presence of transgender soldiers.

Outsourcing the Outsourcers

Apple outsourcing company Foxconn has announced plans to open a plant in Wisconsin. How far does this go? Will Foxconn’s Wisconsin operation re-outsource back to Asia? Globalization is confusing for workers.

How the Press Leads “The Resistance”

The Trump Administration is guilty of countless wrongdoing, including monstrous acts that no one cares about, at least not in the press. In the meantime, the media is obsessing over a meeting between a 2016 Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer, Donald Trump, Jr. and a number of other attendees.
