Deficit hawks say that the government should live within its means, like us. They obviously haven’t heard of auto loans, home, mortgages, student loans, or credit card debt. Americans carry trillions of dollars of debt for purchases they couldn’t afford.
Year after year, things get worse. Year after year, Americans are optimistic about the future.
John McCain’s inability to remember his number of residences (or, more accurately, Cindy’s) certainly exposes his inability to relate to ordinary Americans. Of course, the same is true of Obama, though to a less extreme extent.
