The food industry spent $45 million to defeat California’ Proposition 37, which would have require “organic” labvaled foods to be labeled as GMO, or genetically modified, if they were.
So is Arsenic

The previous, decent federal law defining “organic” foods was totally savaged by big Ag when organic sales had reached a threatening 1% of total.
Yup, “we like competition”. But we like, even more, to kill competition in its crib.
That’s not what prop 17 was. It required all foods containing GMOs to inform the consumer of their content on their labels. Organic foods, whether labeled through USDA or by produced association, have to be free of GMOs. The lamentable defeat of prop 17 changes nothing in that regard.
falco: you do realize that “big Ag” are the same people who sell “organic” food, right? Don’t believe me? One example would be “Horizon” (the people who sell “organic” milk). They are owned by “Dean Foods”, a company you would most certainly label as “big Ag”, according to the information on their wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Foods
Bad argument, dude.
Yet another example of «the best government money can buy». Who’s surprised ?…
