Former President Donald Trump faces legal and political jeopardy on many fronts. He is arguably guilty of treason for attempting to conspire to overthrow the government on January 6, 2021. As a real estate developer in New York, he engaged in shady tax filings. There have been allegations of fraud. He hobnobs with political extremists. Given all this, it seems strange that what we are talking about, and what the FBI and the Department of Justice are going after him about, is the relatively minor issue of documents that he took out of the White House without permission.

If you accept/claim that His ex-Hairness:
1) is arguably guilty of treason for attempting to conspire to overthrow the government
2) as a real estate developer in New York, he engaged in shady tax filings.
3) is alleged to have committed fraud.
4) hobnobs with political extremists.
” … (g)iven all this, it seems strange that” we should then minimize the importance “of documents that he took out of the White House without permission.” ???
Trump’s activities throughout his adult life compare, more or less, to those of several of the recent presidents. The Clintons (he and she) were so scandal-adjacent for so long that they encapsulated it. Biden? Clean as the driven snow, once you willfully ignore the whole Anita Hill thing, the plagiarism charges, the continual assertion of events that are demonstrably not possible, that laptop everyone on the left side of the media is refusing to discuss, and so forth. The presidencies of Reagan/Poppy Bush/Cheney were also riddled with abominations both minor and major. By all means, let us burn Trump at the stake. But let us stop pretending that there’s no more wood to be found anywhere in the kingdom. These people always skate. Even Nixon. He should still be in prison, along with Hank K. and that the whole gang. I think the longest sentence anyone drew for that was Liddy (4 years or so). All the rest served less than 2 years. Trump will walk. His underlings will face impressive sentences which will be reduced to practically nothing once the left finds a new shiny object to distract it.
Actually those documents are VERY IMPORTANT as were the documents that Hillary Clinton destroyed while at the State Department.
We don’t have a democracy but if we ever hope to have one, information is the key for making the proper choices. We can never prepare for a future if we never understand our true past.
Information on government actions is vital for an informed public. That’s why secrecy is so abhorrent to a functioning democratic society.
I doubt that empty top secret files and many boxes full of national security material sitting around , unsecured in the hands of a guy who is suspected of being a Russian agent for decades is a little thing.
