It’s the Thoughtless That Counts

Apparently as a way to promote the Democratic Party leading into the 2022 midterm elections, President Biden is pushing through executive orders that make headlines but don’t have much practical effect. It seems to be helping at the polls, but what happens when voters learn the truth?

After 40-odd years of the Republicans gutting the middle class and the democrats letting it happen, perhaps the voters have already figured out the truth? FiveThirtyEight gives the Republicans a 30% chance of gaining the Senate and a 70% chance of gaining the House. Even after everything the Republicans and Trump have pulled, even after killing Roe v. Wade, the probability of the Republicans controlling both chambers come January is the same as that for the democrats keeping both (21%). And the probability of the Republicans winning at least one chamber (all they’ll need) is 79%. Those are the optimistic numbers. RCP projects a 52-48 Republican Senate and a 220-180 Republican House (with 35 seats undecided — so even in their best-case scenario, the Republicans have a five-seat majority). This episode brought to you by the letter C, as in Clintonian Centrism. And Compromise. And Cluelessness.

  • It’s considering the electorate completely mindless that counts. It’s certainly difficult to argue with that, given the 81 million voters who triumphantly elected a doddering & bumbling, if alarmingly dangerous, fool to do his final Dirty Harry role “at the highest level of government.”

Biden’s infinitesimally incremental proposals of insulting, if chronic, Democratic Party nothing-burgers of progress (many of which are cancelled without the media frenzy of their announcements) IS true “art of the politically contemptuous.”

But, to be sure, Biden hasn’t been totally without BOLD moves. If his domestic approach is considered timid, then he valiantly and thunderously handed Russia the means, motive and opportunity to monumentally slap him down on foreign policy. He’s managed to solidify Russia’s alliance with China, adding India to the mix, and driving a total of some 87% of the world’s population to finally say “basta with your victim-empire shtick” accelerating the US dollar, the source of its imperial “strength,” on a one-way course to oblivion.

A country that never stops crowing about its exceptionality is pathologically and, perhaps, suicidally, thoughtless.
