Georgia senatorial candidate and former NFL star Herschel Walker is campaigning as militantly pro-life and anti-choice on abortion rights. But there is credible evidence that he paid for and endorsed an abortion that his girlfriend had in the past. Because they simply want to win, Republican officials and voters are happy to overlook his brazen hypocrisy.

It is remarkable that although both sides are perfectly fine with blatant hypocrisy, only the Republicans seem to understand that the object of the exercise is to actually win. The R’s very carefully moved the ball (of fetal cells) a yard at a time toward the end zone. And now they’re doing their victory dance before the field goal of passing a federal law outlawing abortion. In the parlance of sports, they played better ball. I’m not sure what sports metaphor can be used to describe the upcoming midterms. Perhaps one of those horse-racing events where the animal’s legs snap and it has to be euthanized right there on the track. (Even if the dems pull off a miracle and keep the House and Senate, so what? It’s not like they’ll do anything.)
