So much for change you can believe in: the torture continues at Gitmo and will continue at least another year. And nary a word about the NSA’s despicable warrantless wiretapping and espionage program against American citizens.

Er, Obama ran on a centrist platform and still won only by less than 53%. I'm sure that a more liberal candidate would have been even more palatable to the Red States.
"why do them dang foreigners have constitutional rights like normal american people?"
i know i know !
lemme see if i remember
"All Men are created equal, and are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, among these being Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."
yeah that's it
doesn't mention "citizens" at all, anywhere
or "nation" or "security" either for that matter
Because the economy is managed in such a way as to ensure a minimum level of unemployment, so that somebody somewhere will have to take that job. It doesn't matter whether it's the same person all the time or not.
Ted, how about smoking in your own house (in an apartment complex, if you want to make it interesting) or on the premises of a private business whose owner allows it?
It' so seldom I agree with you, Incitatus, I'm compelled to make note of it. Smoking inside an establishment shouldn't be a government issue. It should be a decision made by the business owner. At this point, the only place anyone might expect to be able to smoke is in a bar, but even that's not a given anymore. Which is fine. If I can't smoke inside, I go through fewer cigarettes and don't feel as crappy the next day. But, you know, it's a fraking bar. No one is there to engage in healthy activity.
Raleigh is now considering banning smoking in its parks, which…really? Can we go inside to smoke? The NC Museum of Art doesn't allow smoking during its outdoor movie screenings. Even if I want to walk far away from where everyone is sitting, which is what I always did, I can't do that. No, I'm not whining. I, and everyone I know, can sit through a movie without a cigarette. But I do think it's ridiculous.
Grouchy, I'd say it is mostly lefties (which I most definitely am) who are big on anti-smoking and anti-food legislation. Self-righteous, elitist foodies are the worst. And PETA wants fish to be referred to as "sea kittens" so they'll seem more cuddly and people won't want to eat them. I'm not making that up.
We love our mommy states, when they suit our personal causes.
