Rubble Sweet Rubble

While they’re off destroying the homes of Afghans and Iraqis, U.S. soldiers are losing their own homes to foreclosure.

  • Exactly what is new here? Americans sign up, submit themselves to the non-uniform code of military injustice, allegedly protect our Democracy and Constitution by fighting in far-off lands, often get injured and disabled for life, then come home to a culture and government of wealth that WILL, if Veterans allow them, to get off WITHOUT PAYING THE FULL COST OF WAR. That thing about a camel passing through the eye of a needle easier than a rich man getting into heaven is about the best way of describing all dealings with the power and wealth of America. Besides other Veterans, no one, but NO ONE, would go to bat for returning and disabled Veterans unless it meant pulling in votes for an election. For all the good things about America, the reasons people from other countries want to come here and stay here, our treatment of Veterans rates 1 on a scale of 100. If the DVA and Congress weren’t shamed into providing token services and compensations to Veterans, they wouldn’t. Young political turks and bean counters forget, or don’t even bother to educate themselves, the realities of military service in peacetime and war. We come home to a country that wants to forget, wants us to erase the unforgettable horrors of war, and play nicey-nicey when the safe-at-homes are providing connections and clout to their friends and family members while fucking Veterans and their families up the ass. If it weren’t for Veterans, there wouldn’t BE Veterans benefits, VA hospitals, memorials (not that you can get a ride on public transportation with a memorial set in stone in Washington, D.C.)

  • If you want to prosper as a mercenary, you have to go with the private sector. Other than that advice, I’m not sure what’s going on here. Does the military no longer provide housing for the dependents of it’s soldiers? And the foreclosures, were these financed with ARMs and little or no down payment? If so, the military should be up in ARMs (haw!), it’s in their best interest, all of us as well, to see that our military personnel aren’t preyed upon.
