A World War I propaganda poster warned that individuals failing to support war efforts would face future shame for cowardice. Combat required immense bravery. Today, democracy falters as Trump enacts deportations without due process and censors universities. Courage remains scarce. Will people standing silent now face judgment later?
What IS the Left? What should we fight for? How can we rebuild outside of the Democrats? Order my latest book “WHAT’S LEFT” here at Rall.com. It comes autographed to the person of your choice, and I’ll deliver it anywhere. Cost including shipping is $29.95 in the USA.

Ted told us that Russia was going to be rolling up Ukraine in a matter of weeks because Russia is the wonderful, uninept, Shangri-La of the planet. That’s what he did during these wonder years.
For those with enough expendable cash to go to ball games or other sporting events, standing for the national anthem is obligate. Not doing so risks incurring hostile glances, aggressive reactions, possibly even being roughed up by “people who love ‘Mericuh.”
When considering the Great War from the distance of the years, it seems as though the poster Ted is referencing in this installment had nothing to do with “patriotism” as much as it was a way to cow dissent from those who saw the war as almost a farce caused by ruling elites who sat safely at home in their castles, surrounded by staffs who waited on them hand and foot.
“What did I do during the war? I refused to engage in pointless dress-up pwotests run by clueless rubes who had trustfunds, the latest iPhones, little brains, and zero tactical or organizational awareness for how to achieve lasting goals.”
If we are talking about effective efforts, what we need to do is talk to people whose votes are hurting us. We need to find a way to help them with their problems and aspirations in a way that doesn’t worsen our problems or hobble our aspirations. As I see it, pretty much all other efforts are futile.
For those who look at this in terms of short-term practicality … if Trump cannot credibly primary Republican congress members, he loses much of his power. Thus, convincing voters can have immediate effect even though the next presidential election is years off.
