I note your “Sympathy for Our Devils” column does not permit comments. Hey, it’s your site.
But I will ask for clarification (possibly in a later column). The stats about one in six men being sexually attracted to children, for instance. Are we talking about 16% of the men hanging around playgrounds in trench coats hunting for the single-digit crowd? Or does this include, for instance, a huge swath of men who see a 16-year-old who looks older, thinks some thoughts, and — when told, “This is my cousin, Phyllis, she’s 16” — mentally drop her like a red-hot cannonball?
Because the former scares the hell out of me. The latter? Not so much.
Similarly, I’d like to see an unpacking of the tech industries’ numbers on images. Again, are we talking 17-year-olds flashing their breasts at Mardi Gras? A naked baby in profile? AI-produced? How much of it is actually what people would normally think of when the term is mentioned?
