Your Dinner with Ted

We have a winner! My first-ever auction of dinner or drinks with me in Manhattan has been won by a person from Long Island, New York. Winning bid was $355.00 (plus the price of dinner/drinks).

If you missed out, you have another chance. I’ve reposted the auction. Starting bid is a mere 99 cents. Buy It Now price is $500 if you want a sure thing.

NB: this has to take place in Manhattan. Going to other places costs money.

Dinner with a downwardly mobile editorial cartoonist: the perfect gift for the holidays!

  • It doesn’t necessarily need to be in Manhattan. You just need to stipulate that the buyer must also cover travel expenses beyond the Manhattan area. That stipulation opens up more potential buyers, and you potentially get a free trip out of it. Of course in this economy there are probably few who can buy your time and travel expenses, but it can’t hurt to open the possibility up just in case.

    • @someone: My previous auction offered the out-of-town option but received zero bids. On that one I put the minimum bid at $500 because, well, I’m not traveling across country for $20. But there were no takers.

  • Ah I see. None-the-less, many people are still willing to pay for a $45 plane ticket that has a $50 fee for luggage even when they wouldn’t pay for a $95 plane ticket to the same destination with luggage inclusive; if you get my drift.

  • I used to live in Howard Beach, and would have been willing to spend 99¢ to have dinner with a ‘downwardly mobile editorial cartoonist’. But Manhattan is too expensive. Even at 99¢, the cost of a meal in Manhattan tends to run into hundreds. But, if Mr. Rall had been willing to take the A train, I’d have bought him dinner. But that was a long time ago.

I’m divorced, and was ordered to pay 110% of my take-home or go to the Workhouse for Delinquent Divorced Dads, so now I’m no longer in Howard Beach, I’m on the lam.

If my circumstances were different, I’d certainly have tried to host Mr. Rall. He’s my favourite cartoonist, since he’s the one that’s the nearest to the right of my own political position.

  • While it isn’t a path to riches, like most professions, have you given stand up comedy serious consideration? You have plenty of material, it would seem you have the right kind of personality for it and you’re already a known commodity. The only thing you really would need to do is work on your timing and delivery, which is the most important skill set, but that can be learned. Honestly you would probably be a better natural fit for stand up work than editorial cartooning.

  • What if you have an out of town event, Ted?

I’m telling ya…next time you’re in Berkeley…two slices of Fat Slice Pizza and a large fountain drink of your choice…on ME!

Hell, we can even go to Amoeba Records after and I’ll buy -ONE- obscure punk rock band CD of your choice from there!

(…but then I’ll DEFINITELY want a signed cartoon, also!)

My starting and final bid is $.99

    Deal?

    • @Youngturk39: Not just me, but if people want leftist cartoonists and writers, they need to support them. I bet you spend $11 to see a movie, right?

  • $11 just for the movie and no face time with the A-list actor!

Off topic, but I have to ask. Mr. Rall, I follow you religiously and notice you haven’t been on Youtube in months. I suppose you aren’t going to continue your “Disposable” animated series? I’d like to see more.
