Our whole civilization is enduring a crisis of credibility.
I was looking for something on Amazon just now and I realized I can’t tell the difference between real product reviews and advertiser spam. “The reception is absolutely FANTASTIC!” That could have been written by a real person — somebody who unconsciously imitated ad copy because they thought they were supposed to. Distinguishing real from fake is meaningless. We fight fake wars against fake enemies, we make fake plans based on fake statistics, we remember fake history with the corruption edited out, we end our fake protests when our fake justice system tells us we have to.
They would not put up with this shit in Egypt. Or Serbia. In 2000 a protester drove a bulldozer through the wall of the parliament building in Belgrade. The media over here did not denounce the violence, or the mess. Think of the clean-up costs!
Actually that’s not exactly what happened in Serbia. My history is fake too.
Also, Twitter is excited you’re here.
Drooling, what makes you think that Protesters aren’t facing serious punishment? Remember Egypt claimed stories about harm to their protesters were lies for a log time too.
