We had the nukes in space back in Reagan’s time with the SDI program. If you don’t think the U.S. and Russia (and probably a couple other countries) already have nukes in space disguised as “communications” satellites, you’re higher than those satellites. When detonated in space, a nuke would release a massive EMP that would cripple pretty much all the satellites in that region. Added bonus? Look up Kessler Syndrome. The amount of shrapnel caused by such detonations (don’t imagine there’ll just be one) would generate a cloud of debris that would collide with other satellites, causing more debris, causing more collisions. You wouldn’t be able to put new satellites in orbit with any certainty of their survival for any length of time.
