Why Didn’t Hillary Change?

6-23-16

When Hillary Clinton made literally no concessions to the Bernie Sanders wing of the Democratic Party, she sealed her doom. And possibly hours. I mean seriously, can she at least have said how about a $12.50/hour minimum wage?

  • She did jump on the minimum wage bandwagon towards the end of the primary.

    • Not really. She said that she “wanted” a $15 an hour minimum wage. But she didn’t want it enough to actually put it in her list of campaign promises. On her website, she said that she wanted $12 minimum wage. And that’s all she officially ever promised.

      • 12 v 12.50, then? Is that not splitting hairs? It’s still more than we’ll see out of Trump.

      • Totally splitting hairs. That was the point of my statement. Hillary wasn’t willing to give the left anything – anything – at all.

      • Twelve was a dilution of Bernie’s 15. Her college tuition plan- free if your family makes under 160K- was a dilution of Bernie’s plan to make it free for everyone. Not all that we wanted, but more than nothing.

Bernie had pushed the Democrats to the left, and the false equivalency between Trump and Clinton that you and others pushed squandered those gains. Now we have an administration that will actively seek to undo all the progress we have made in recent years.
