That’s okay — there are enough of us 70+ year-olds to keep the cars on the road. Oh, wait — do I qualify? I’m an American in Mexico! 🙂
Doomed? If you live in an area that has an adequate public transport system, and you can’t find good, steady employment, then having a car may simply be a luxury that you can do without in this grim, unequal economy..
If you live in an area that has an adequate public transport system having a car is a luxury, period. Unfortunately most of us don’t live in such areas..
And if you live in an area with no public transport and have no job, no money, and can’t get a loan, they you can’t buy a car. You could probably afford a drivers license, but why waste that money if you can’t afford to drive?
