Guest Blogger Post: Gays Are Being Set Up As Scapegoats

Susan here. In the UK, gays are about to gain marriage rights. While I’m happy about this, I’m not so happy that the British people are having austerity forced upon them at the same time. Social justice has to be implemented across the board, not just to one identity group. Why? Because divide-and-conquer is the basic technique which the Elite uses to rule, and giving rights to one group while depriving other groups sets the former up to be scapegoated. I think it’s imperative that gays orgs express their full condemnation of the forced impoverishment of the British people as a whole.

  • if uk gay rights orgs are anything like the ones in the us then they’re run by one percenters who happen to be gay and don’t give a shit about the ninety nine percent, gay or straight. they actually fought so poor gays could join the military. rich ones sure aren’t joining!

but how does that set gays up to be scapegoated? i can see how it sets us up for a wicked backlash but when things get really bad i imagine that the gays are gonna be one of the first to get attacked whether we’re allowed to get married or not.

and of course, it’ll be the poor ones who bear the brunt.

    • @ pork –

“but how does that set gays up to be scapegoated?”
      .
I’m with you on that. I see no causal relationship between “austerity” and “gay marriage rights” at all.

      Susan?

Oh thank goodness. I was worried I was the only one who felt this way on the left. Every time I bring this up to people they act like I am against whatever group in questions rights are, I am so sick of that.
