  • Oh Ted, please. I like you, but this can’t even be described as wishful thinking. It’s just poor analysis. Remember what you wrote earlier this year? Something along the lines of the presidential election possibly not being held because Occupy would be a force beyond anything we’ve ever seen! Social unrest on steroids!!

    Except … no.

I will illuminate you, again, as to why Occupy failed – and why it will ALWAYS fail. Here’s why: You cannot force political change when your movement is standing on clay feet.

It’s not about not having demands.
It’s not about not having an agenda.
It’s not about creating a third party.

It’s about this: The people that make up this movement want to be better participants in the failure that is capitalism. They want to be better, more obedient consumers. They want stuff! They want to be part of The Big Gimme!

Where’s my McMansion in the exurbs?!? Occupy!
    Where’s my Lexus?!? Occupy!
Where’s my free healthcare so I can eat more burgers and beer?!? Occupy!
Where’s my free college education so I can buy more stuff?!? Occupy!
Where’s my Big Gimme Gimme Gimme?!? Occupy!

Citizens of this country are not even mentally capable anymore of understanding why they might organize in the first place. It’s not possible when their mind is wired to be nothing but a mindless drone consumer. Occupy not only failed, it is doomed to fail always and forever.

Gimme Gimme Gimme is no basis for change. Never has been, never will be.

  • Great column Ted.

The Chicago Teacher’s Union in striking for better conditions to educate children in are the only chance a generation of city kids have of not being kicked to the side of the road by privatizers. The spirit of Occupy is raising consciousness even as it morphs and migrates into other movements.
