On the last couple of blogs I’ve had some negative feedback, no big deal, but I guess I should give some background on myself, I’ve had the advantage or disadvantage, as it may be, of the following. I was born and raised in a white middle class home, not a victim of any childhood abuses or trauma, I attended a state univeristy and got out with zero student loans, I majored in something I thought would be useful, (Education) instead of the more popular French Literature. I joined the military and have been to some of the best and worst places on the planet, I’ve seen acts of incredibly good and out of this world evil, I’ve worked with people that you would be proud to know and others that make your skin crawl, in both Afghanistan and Iraq I’ve seen treatment of women and minorities that would make you physically sick to your stomach. I’m sorry that when I talk about things that might happen in 50 years it’s not as big of concern as when I see kids starving on the street and people killed because of their faith, I don’t have the advantage of sitting in an apartment in American regurgitating the talking points of Moveon, NPR or whomever the flavor of the week is.

There’s no reason you can’t be concerned about both things, simultaneously. There’s no reason you can’t take action on multiple fronts at the same time. In fact, you can be primarily focused on the immediate problems you face, while taking even minimal action to address the problem of climate change. If you agree there’s a problem with human use of the planet, and take any action to reverse those problems – you’d be doing more than most people. Even sending an email to your representatives is doing something. No one’s saying you should go live in tree house and eat leaves.
In any case, these aren’t talking points. It’s serious business. Read this if you need convincing.

I’d suggest you have a case of “we’re No 1” induced blindness. One does not have to leave American, nor one’s apartment in America, to see, here, the very same abuses you describe from elsewhere.
You may be a fool but at least you are arrogant about it.
Ted, you rock! I don’t agree with everything you say, but keep up your very original voice and know that some of us out here appreciate it without having to feel we’re always on the same page! Very funny cartoons too, the best I think that are out there!
Just realized it was not Ted who wrote this post. To quote Gilda Radner: Never mind
Well exiodexian… You are right, it is BIG Business the climate change issue. As for your argument that you can worry about both at the same time. No, not realistically. Most people only have so much time that they can devote to various problems and issues. Perhaps for some reason you worry about climate change daily, it gives you anxiety and you go to the beach to measure its impact daily. Perhaps some conservatives do more than eat chicken to protest gays, but most likely, day to day you are not doing anything about climate change, most likely today you had to decide between caramel or chocolate flavoring if your coffee, and that was more important to you than climate change at that moment. The reality is, day to day you probably do not think about climate change most of the time. The point is, day to day life is where our minds are, but rarely what politicians talk about, job security, affordable food, transportation, housing, ect. Most times, they talk about lofty goals such as everyone singing songs and getting along perfectly, or a republican utopia where races don’t mix, and everybody has straight missionary sex, whatever…. they don’t ever talk about making the average persons day to day life better.
