How They Forget

When John Edwards—the main liberal candidate—dropped out of the Democratic primary race, on January 30, 2008, Edwards urged his former rivals to continue his “two Americas” campaign, which emphasized the growing gap between the 1% and the 99%.

“They have both pledged to me—and more importantly, through me to America—that they will make ending poverty central to their campaign for the presidency,” he said after speaking to Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.

  • Well that pledge to Edwards cooked it. Now there is no way for Obama and Clinton to fight against poverty. How could they be against poverty and endure the disgrace of being caught honoring their pledge to a philanderer? It would almost be like showing love to Edwards. It would be political suicide.

Looks like the poor will just have to wait until someone of sufficient purity of heart notices the plight of the poor and then brings it to the attention of Hillary and Barack. Until then, it is a no go, and who can blame them?

Too bad they couldn’t notice poverty on their own so they wouldn’t have to associate themselves with the likes of Edwards.

  • Occupy! You can SMELL revolution in the air!

They owed Edwards nothing. Obama and Clinton merely wanted his supporters. Edwards’ commitment was no more profound than his judgment. He was under great stress: a wife dying of cancer. Edwards was not the only Left candidate, relatively speaking. There was Dennis Kucinich, but he wasn’t tall enough, telegenic enough. So the Democrats got what they wanted, a tall opportunist.

Matters not! The problem is systemic. Now, it is too late! The republic is a gone.

Maybe, someday, the sexual pecadillos of politicians will be less newsworthy than their lies and frauds. Not so in our time.
Too bad for us and for Edwards! We all have paid a heavy price.
