Some Obama supporters are unflinching in their belief that he’s a progressive savior,
Most, though, will temper their defenses of him, as circumstances dictate.
It’s a bend-but-not-break thing. They’ll edge toward the shallowest end of the pool, but they’ll never come out—no matter how flagrantly he thumbs his nose at progressive values and interests.
You can track Obama admirers’ varying degrees of fervor using this handy chart:

If the high-end of the chart sounds wildly exaggerated, check out the real-world quotes beneath the ‘toon from the original post.
You actually need one more level above “Transcendent”, called “Whimsical”. This is the state whereby you’re spread-eagles with Obama ramming to you using gravel, not vaseline, while you moan “more, more, deeper, deeper”.
That’s the “Whimsical” state.
Ignore the right wing plant. I’ve blasted his arguments to pieces enough times that all he has left is personal attacks. he just can’t stand that I’m standing in the way of his starting a “Gwoious Wevolution” for his right wing masters to crush.
I’ve never been above “guarded”, but there’s a lot of people here that have trouble dealing with facts and reality- most notably right wing plants.
I am so tired of being left out on the left, marginalized by Obama worshiping nuts who can only think in terms of identity politics, and who choose to ignore class politics .
I am looking forward to a win for Romney just so the self-styled Democratic Party left can start opposing Obama’s policies when they are continued under Romney, just as Bush’s policies were continued under Obama.
Who knows? Maybe “Nixon goes to China” prefigures Mitt’s move to the left under extreme social pressure, domestic collapse, and a Democratic Party willing to take a left stance seriously.
These elections are a joke. I doubt the rationality of anyone who still sees a lesser evil between the two corporatist plutocrat parties.
