Even If He’s Guilty

John Edwards is accused of something laughably trivial.

It is downright surreal to see him pilloried for misappropriation of campaign funds while total scum like Bush and Obama relax, unmolested, despite lying the American people into wars that are bankrupting us and murdering hundreds of thousands of people.

  • Diversionary scapegoatism.

Just as with Eliot Spitzer, all will be forgiven as long as no harm comes to the partners in crime.

What more effective means is there to create a favorable public image for the power elite than to selectively prosecute members of the power elite who do not demonstrate sufficient class loyalty?

  • Oh please, Edwards is a hypocrite. Democrats always cheer when Republicans who support family values get slammed for doing something not illegal at all, cheating on their wives with men, because their support of family values means they should be punished. Edwards claiming to be for finance reform, higher taxes for the wealthy, and other generally financially responsible type reforms, didn’t even use his own money to pay for his hooker and her baby. (She was a paid employee whose apparently sole job was doing him while holding a video camera) and then when she had the baby he paid her specifically with campaign money, despite being a rich son of a bitch who could have easily paid her out of his own private funds. The only thing I will say for him, is he was so absurdly stupid that if he had said he was set up and never actually made those payments, I would have believed him. I don’t think he should get jail time just a huge fine, and the humiliation of having to admit he’s so functionally greedy that he used campaign money.

  • Ted,

Bush and Obama were able to keep their noses cleain while running for office, but they still showed a catistrophic lack of restraint once elected. What would Edwards, who apparently has no self control would have done?

We’d be at war with half the planet on behalf or our oil companies with weapons bought for 10x fair market prices from our defense contractors and financed at usurous rates from our thrice bailed out banks. That’s how an American president would maximize his graft. How can you possibly expect someone who mislead juries for personal gain to do any different? At least things are only about half as bad as this under Bush and Obama.

  • Here’s what I don’t understand: Isn’t Edwards a multi-millionaire? Why didn’t he use his own money? Why did he have to solicit money from others?

Seems to me, that is the crime!

  • Ted, was simply making the point that the actual presidents of our country are way more criminal, but I agree with you, he’s a criminal, and even worst, an idiot. Which by all accounts he isn’t stupid.

What a gift “Edwards-Weiner-Palin” has been for our singular Money Party. Listening to people talk about all three of them at work has me on the brink of a full on Trent Reznor scream.
