Hers to Lose

Sarah Palin might run.

Don’t laugh–OK, laugh. But I think she could win. Not just the nomination, mainly because of anti-Mormon bigotry in the GOP, but the presidency.

The rage of the 20% unemployed, the 99ers, etc., could create a tsunami. Obama will pay for ignoring the economic disaster.

  • Look, I’ll be the first person to tell you that the American electorate is deeply stupid. But THAT stupid (and you have to be THAT stupid to elect someone who will make things much worse to punish the other side because they didn’t make things better to the extent you would’ve liked)? No way in hell.

I hope she runs, and I hope she gets the nomination, because if she does, you’re going to see a blowout that will make Reagan beating Mondale like a bongo drum look tame.

    I’d bet money on it.

    • The smart money would bet with you. But never say never. The Anerican people voted for Reagan and two Bushes over far better qualified Democrats. And they did it out of spite, to send a message over a tough economy.

  • Nobody worry, Obama will defeat her.

Somebody is bound to get on here and tell us that we should all ignore this attention-whore.

    Uh-huh.

Just like we all ignored the laughable G.W. Bush candidate that was trotted out over a decade ago. As I recall, that guy was an unqualified trainwreck, with only name recognition to fuel his campaign. What sort of idiot would have voted for him?

  • Oh no, we shouldn’t ignore her. We should relentlessly shine a spotlight on every last single stupid, arrogant remark she’s ever made. Remind everyone, every minute of every day, that she’s not fit to hold the lowest office in the land, and the idea of her holding the highest alternates between terrifying and laughable.

As for Bush, name recgonition and the previously mentioned stupidity of the American electorate made it close enough for them to cheat. Twice.

  • Palin seems to be more shrewd than her studied naiveté and heartland manners seem to indicate. My take is she’s aiming for the long run (she’s still young for a politician), since her advisors (read the insufferable and despicable Bill Kristol) probably consider the Obama re-election a done deal.
There’s a lot more conspiring against Mitt Romney than his religion: the man has all the charisma of a sole fish and the only who’s probably a harder sell in Blue Stateland is Giuliani.

  • Nobody worry, Obama will defeat her.

I don’t think any of the usual posters here are worried, because they know the difference between Obama and Palin is just a matter of style and not substance.

Sorry to be “devil’s advocate”, but Ted has a serious point. The addage, ‘Do Not underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups’, should resonate here. Yes, we with a functional brain between our two ears, we find her to be laughable… but there is some reason she still commands large sums for speaking engagments and is perpetually in the headlines. Obama and the progressives ignore her at our own peril. Ask yourself this… when was the last time America allowed reason to dictate her/our direction(s)? Emotion, not reason, drives most behaviors.

    • Precisely my point. In a two-party system, people cast a lot of “fuck you” votes. They hate the system, but they can’t vote against it, so they lash out instead.

  • There’s nobody good who’s running. On either side. I’ve never cast a “fuck you” vote before, but I have never had less energy thinking about going to the polls and pulling the lever.
