You Can’t Become Popular Because You’re Not Popular Yet

In presidential politics, candidates with low poll numbers don’t receive media coverage or an invitation to debates because of their supposedly low odds. But it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy: you can’t possibly break out and get discovered by the voters because no one knows you exist. Just another reason you keep seeing the same old faces year after year.

Take the logic one step further. Just as you can’t become popular because you aren’t popular yet, you can’t remain popular if you aren’t mentioned. Trump is still miles ahead of, um, Biden. Those of us who are interested in politics need to be aware: Most people know about as much about politics as the average person knows about Canadian geography. (Calgary? Is that where the crucifixion took place?)
Speaking of crucifixions, Biden/his administration/his campaign not only lacks press coverage — how do you cover something as cringe-inducing as one of Karine Jean-Pierre’s press conferences or as despair-triggering as a Joe Biden teleprompter speech — and put a positive spin on it? It’s the politics equivalent of flipping through a magazine at the dentist’s office. Say what you want about Trump, but did you ever get to the end of one of HIS things without an elevated heart rate and faster breathing?

  • Just for clarification for the readers, the “system” in question here is “capitalism.”
