I recall that Barack Obama’s numerous defenders were quite loud and proud about his not closing Gitmo. “We didn’t elect a king!” “Oh, you mean, ‘Why isn’t he doing everything?’ ” And equally minatory about any criticism of his bailing out Wall Street while leaving all those still-unemployed people on the side of the road.
And of course, before Obama were the Clintons. I suspect Bill and Hill’s biggest regret (to misquote Carl Panzram) was that the whole middle class didn’t have one throat that they could wrap their hands around.
