This Is a Defense?

In what seems to be a fairly lame “October surprise” attempt, the Republican-owned New York Post is reviving the story about Hunter Biden’s “soft corruption” in Ukraine and attempts to influence peddle with his father, the then-vice president. The story doesn’t seem to hold a lot of water but the basics remain. What Hunter and Joe Biden did doesn’t smell good.

If the dems would just be honest about it. “Yeah, whether it’s bribing Chelsea with a sinecure at MSNBC or Hunter getting a six-figure-a-month job at a shady company, we high-level dems take good care of our own while we screw you out of every little thing we can.” But the Pelosis, the Feinsteins, the Clintons, the um Bidens, the Obamas, they put on those sanctimoniously smug faces while they “faith and family” us.
Eight days to go. Right? Until we end up having to wait until January? I want Trump to win so badly, just so I can watch everyone in la-la-liberal land fumble around trying to explain how Biden and the dnc lost. I crave the cataloguing of the many missed red flags that led to Trump getting another win.
Can we get a constitutional amendment through that requires seppuku when a candidate drops low enough in the polls?

    • My ONLY problem with this is that the Democrats will continue to win for losing, meaning the oligarchs will continue to fund Democrats, rewarding them for their standing obstructively between them and the reality of a really disruptive actual democratic movement.

What else could smother Sanders-like campaigns as effectively as the fake democracy of Democrats?

The oligarchs need Democrats to continuing to obstructively throw their loser bodies between them and a rising democratic insurgency without a hint of them being the puppet masters they really are.

Fan boys of both parties will continue to fight each other as a distraction so the hierarchical authoritarian oligarchs don’t have to directly face an actively disruptive democracy.

Absolutely. To everything you said. But if, um, Biden loses, it’s inexcusable. I don’t care how many paid hucksters the oligarchs have penning op-eds and smirking into cameras pretending to bleed for the commoners, if Biden loses, no one is going to listen to a thing the centrist dems say ever again.
It’s like that episode of the Brady Bunch where Jan stabs her rival in the face so that she can go on as the understudy, but then can’t remember any of her lines.
It will be exactly like that. Even down to the canned laughter.

  • This soft corruption is the outcome of the meritocracy ideology.
Obama did not come from an affluent, connected family, however through his merits he was recognized and nurtured to get to where he is now. Americans don’t want to give up on meritocracy ideology, since what would be left?
Even Trump is part of meritocracy ideology, even if he has no inherent merit. He used his dad’s money to market himself as a successful businessmen, which too many people still believe.

  • Kleptocracy, alternatively cleptocracy or kleptarchy, is a form of political and government corruption where the government exists to increase the personal wealth and political power of its officials and the ruling class at the expense of the wider population, often without pretense of honest service. A government characterized by rampant greed and corruption.

If you vote for a ‘D’ or a ‘R’ you’re casting a vote for corruption.

  • “EVERYONE loves influence peddling!!!”
The bad news is that the VAST MAJORITY has no influence to peddle.
The good news is that there are political party celebrities through whom the nothing-burgers can peddle vicariously.
What would we DO without corporate fake-life???

  • I keep hoping that, if enough vote Green and Biden manages to lose, the DNC will figure out that they need us to win. I know it’s a false hope. The DNC & their fanatical followers say the Green voters gave us Trump, by far the worst president ever when St Hillary would have been the very best, so every Green voter is utterly despicable and they should be run out of the country, since a Green vote is exactly the same as voting early and often for Trump.
Only Trump is incompetent and lazy, and, given his predecessors, I figure that makes him one of the ‘better’ (i.e., slightly less destructive) presidents of the last 39 years. No new shooting wars, something that hadn’t happened in the 39 years before Trump.

  • “Some Pig”

  • Barrett is confirmed. The glorious political rapture to Christo-fascism is on schedule!!!

Of course, NOW the magical thinking is that the Dems will pack the SCOTUS. This requires, first, their taking back the majority in the senate in this election, at best, a highly dubious proposition. Even IF the Dems get the senate majority, as they have clearly demonstrated with Barrett, they woefully lack the political courage that it would require to pack the SCOTUS. .
