When it comes to doling out trillions to bankrupt banks, drone-bombing houses full of civilians, and ordering the assassination hit squad that took out Osama bin Laden, Obama is decisive. When it comes to supporting the right of gays and lesbians to marry, on the other hand, his position is evolving more slowly than the crocodile.

Hardly surprising, Ted. One must keep in mind that unlike the former three (with the possible exception (hopefully) of number one), the fourth decision might have negative consequences for Mr Obama’s re-election chances. Therefore it needed to be triangulated most carefully. My guess is that Mr Obama and his advisors finally came to the conclusion that those who are most outraged by the thought of same-sex marriage would never ever vote for him anyway, while he could energise some of his base or at least keep them from staying home come 6 November….

Oh, it’s so magnanimous of your Dear Leader to finally concede that gay couples may have the state’s blessing on their union, but may I suggest that his regime keeping a poor gay soldier, who had the audacity to tell (not about his own personal life, mind you), in solitary confinement for 700 plus fricking days, awaiting a summary trial that seems to never come, doesn’t really makes his regime look very humane?
