How about good people doing good things?:
If we eliminate primaries and have ranked-choice voting of all candidates in the November election then this problem goes away. You rank your leftist (or whomever is your favorite) first, then your next favorite etc. If your favorite doesn’t make it, your vote shifts to your next preference rather than being wasted, and shifts again if necessary. There are no spoilers and there is no voting out of fear about electability; just simple honest voting for your favorites.
