The Arithmetic of Revolution

Trump’s government stimulus check only covers a few weeks of income for the typical American family. What happens after that? Hint: it’s already after that.

One problem. The Covid-19 virus disproportionately kills people boomer-aged and above. The most effective thing for the revolution would have been if the virus had spread like wildfire. Instead, the boomers decided that wiping out the global economy to protect them was more important. Once again, they screwed over everyone else for their own advantage.

    • I fear your information is out of date. CoViD-19 is now killing a much higher percentage of non-WASPs than WASPs, and is also killing many younger people (plus wiping out many, many hospices filled with all ethnic groups, where the inmates are just allowed to die without any medical intervention, with DNI and DNR signs on their beds). If you don’t count the hospices, the average age of the victims is much lower.

Then I am genuinely shocked. You mean for once the baby boomers didn’t put themselves first and foremost? You can see why I am hesitant to just accept that. Remarkable.

    • Alex, encouraging hostile divisions among ordinary people according to age is, just like encouraging them according to skin colour or ethnic background – I understand people who look «Asian» are now fair (?) game in certain areas in the United States – is one of the most effective means those who run the country have to see to it that there won’t be any revolution of the kind that would endanger their power (a fascist revolution, which would further enhance it, might be another matter, but that’s hardly required at this point). That, aside from the tried-and-true trick of blaming all internal failures on foreigners, in particular, those dastardly Russians and those nefarious Chinese….

Don’t be a voluntary participant in this shell game….

        Henri,
Normally, I agree with your comments. I take it from your various comments that you live overseas. In the U.S., in the 1980s particularly, a large portion of the baby boomers (not all of them, but a LOT of them) screwed Gen X at every single turn. I won’t provide the charts that show this as they are cheap and plentiful all over the internet.
ANYTIME a baby boomer does something, I don’t even formulate the question “Cui bono?”
I know cui. The boomers is cui.
Completely crippling the economy because they feel a little worried about an increased health risk? In a flat second. The most recent instance of this boomer behavior, is the multiple boomers I spoke with who vehemently OPPOSE universal healthcare because, get this, they’d lose their pension-guaranteed healthcare.
We will have to disagree on this one.

  • I’ve never been in a country where a political uprising started so I can’t say what the conditions have to be for something like that to happen. Here I in LA, I was able to buy toilet paper for the first time in four weeks. Most meat was out for a week. Once I went to the store and bought the next to last hot dogs just because I wasn’t sure when I would see hot dogs again. Bread, beans, rice, pasta, flour, potatoes and hand soap were all absent for basically two-three weeks. Yeast is the only thing still completely unavailable. After all that, I’m still amazed I haven’t heard about riots at grocery stores. The bottom line was although people were worried and sometimes a bit desperate, the majority wasn’t starving. But now the bills are due, so maybe Ted has a point here. Still, I can’t fathom how Trump has a 47% approval rating, instead of a 4.7% one.

My mother reports yeast is missing where she lives, far from a coronazone. Why are people bogarting yeast? What about boullion cubes? It’s like that episode of the Simpsons where Homer thinks the power plant’s on fire and grabs not the photo of his family but the one of his dressed up as an old-timey cowboy. Has everyone lost their minds?
