Donald Trump is threatening to invade Greenland, which is part of Denmark. But Denmark is a member of NATO. If we attack Denmark, we are obligated to come to their defense as well.

The much-missed Barbara Tuchman comes to mind. In “The Guns of August” she describes how all the secret agreements and letters of understanding and so forth between the nations of Europe in the period before the Great War had become like a group of bayonets all stacked against each other: pull one out and the rest of the pile would collapse.
What happens when/if Trump invades Denmark? NATO will sit there and say to itself, “If we LET Trump do this, NATO becomes irrelevant and everyone will leave. So, if he DOES this, we’ll HAVE to fight the U.S., and we will lose. So … we will tell Denmark to let the U.S. have Greenland. Because, if we don’t, we’ll all lose our jobs here at NATO.”
I hope Canada’s paying attention. If Trump gets Greenland, Canada (and Mexico, via the backdoor of having to invade to stop the cartels) will be next. The funny thing? Once the dust settles, much like when it settled during the 1800s and all the Indians were moved away, pretty much all the rich liberals will be buying property. “It was a good investment (puts hand to chest in universal victimhood gesture). I HAD to think about my children’s future. Oh, my children. They’re SO much more deserving than the guttersnipes you’re raising improperly.”
