Let’s Form a Committee to Consider the Possibility of Actually Impeaching Biden

Whatever its merits, slow-walking a vote to take the temperature of GOP House members relative to an inquiry as a prequel to a possible actual impeachment is not an approach likely to result in the kind of dramatic moments that came out of the Watergate hearings.

  • The GOP is presumably timing their impeachment strategy to optimize whatever effect they desire from it re Biden’s re-election campaign. Obviously Biden will not be convicted of any impeachment charges that may be brought but the GOP will be happy with simply making Biden lose support. (One wonders why the GOP would waste their time and effort, ol’ Joe being truly a premier-class self-destructing politician!)

The GOP’s risks are possibly increasing Bidens’ popularity via the “unfair persecution/prosecution” mechanism (as in the current situation with His Hairness, the presumed GOP candidate) or forcing the Dem party to drop Biden and thus finding a replacement who might, possibly, seem a reasonable candidate. (Note, Hillary Clinton has recently announced that she will be taking a more active role in Biden’s campaign!?! Sounds a bit like Cheney being appointed chair of the Baby Bush VP candidate search committee.)

  • The impeachment proceedings are on track to happen in fall, 2024, just before the general election. The Republicans think that this will help them. They are wrong. Much as attacks on Trump that can be cast as government overreach are helping Trump, I fully expect the impeachment proceedings to benefit Biden.

There’s impeachment and then there’s impeachment. It is possible that the GOP plan is merely to walk the public through exactly how the sausage is made. Probably, Biden’s actions don’t rise to impeachment, but will rise to the level of so repulsing and angering voters that enough of them simply say, “Wow. It isn’t just the life time of plagiarism. It isn’t just that he constantly lies about things. Look at how scummy he is on his business dealings, too. I guess I’m staying home on Election Day.”
It is quite possible to “beat the rap” but end up a pariah nonetheless.
