Republican Karen Handel defeated Democrat Jon Ossoff in a election for a Georgia House seat on Tuesday, denying Democrats their first major victory of the Trump era. Democrats tried to put a positive spin on the defeat, but many were deeply disappointed after having had high hopes.

The Democratic Party will always choose to break faith with the plebeians (whose votes they need only once every two or four years) instead of with the big money Power Elite (whom they daily act as agents for) and will try, ineffectively, to elbow their way in closer to the Power Elite while posing as the marginally less ruthless brand that Republicans will always run on, and be in practice.
As the Democrats move ever-to-the-right, they move steadily away from the base they market themselves to in elections.
So they lose elections but serve the purpose of bleeding off passion for effective action against the Power Elite, and so are valuable to them.
Spot on
Not to worry, Ted – even if the Democrats didn’t win, they and their Republican counterparts managed to break a record for the most money ever spent on a campaign for a US House seat – over 50 million USD. As there are 435 seats in the US House of Representatives, a quick calculation indicates that if all accomplish what Mr Ossoff and Ms Handel accomplished, one can expect an injection of over 20 thousand million USD into the US economy every two years. Didn’t Mr Trump promise to get the economic ball rolling ? Good to see that he has a solid bi-partisan consensus behind him !…
The term the chap in the last frame is looking for is not «democracy», but rather «plutocracy» – no air quotes needed….
