Manchin is no more a cause of the Dem party problems as was His Hairness (aka “Trump”) was the cause of essential US fascism.
For those of you who are fans of “Star Trek: Voyager” the story about the fox and the scorpion is already known. It is Joe Manchin’s nature to be the reprehensible greedy thug that he is. Just as it is the nature of mainstream media to be sycophants. Just as it is the nature of many progressives and centrists to keep falling for this sequence over and over.
I really do think we’re approaching the 101% moment. That’s the moment when a system operating on the barest margin possible (imagine someone who makes $1,000 a month but $999 of it is rent and minimum credit card payments) crosses the boundary into mathematical inevitability. The rent goes up $2. They now owe $1,001 every month. And just like that, everything falls apart. They miss a credit card payment, get slapped with a penalty and higher interest rates, and their credit rating takes a hit. Collection departments come calling, and their pay is garnished. Then they’re evicted. Looking back, they’re be astonished at how quickly it all happened. And all because of a pissant $2 increase. The system collapsed a little bit at a time, and then all at once.
