The Republican frontrunner for president could go to prison during the 2024 campaign. If the G.O.P.-led House Oversight Committee is right that Joe Biden took millions in bribes, so could the Democratic frontrunner. The debates could get…interesting.

Today’s history lesson.
In November 1923, almost exactly 100 years ago, Hitler staged the Beer Hall Putsch. (Sound familiiar?) Twenty people died. (Sound familiar?) Hitler was arrested and charged with treason. (Sound familiar?) His trial ran for almost a month and was a media carnival. (Sound familiar?) He was quite proud of what he’d done, and he used the trial to get headlines and push his agenda and indict the system. (Sound familiar?) He was sentenced to five years but served less than a year. The crowds cheered him at the court house. (Sound familiar?)
Everyone who thinks Trump is a joke? Yeah, a very similar sentiment was going around Germany in 1923. Trump in prison? It’ll be the tinsel on the tree for him.
