The governors of Florida and Texas have made news by exporting symbols of the migration crisis, asylum seekers themselves, to northern states like New York and Massachusetts. What if Northerners and leaders of other blue states were to return the favor by exporting their problems?

I think the first step would be for the Northerners to admit that their declarations of “sanctuary cities” were simply empty performative acts that allowed them to feel virtuous. Martha’s Vineyard has no capacity to handle an influx of this sort.
Once you do that, you can move to the actual issue: Nowhere in this country has a system that can take in people, house them safely, integrate them into society, find them jobs, etc. And I don’t just mean the illegal immigrants. I’m talking about citizens, too. You lose your job? As Joe Biden would say (and Barack Obama before him, Dick Cheney, Bill Clinton, all the presidents really): “Tough.”
If the democrats would just admit that, collectively, they don’t care any more or less than the Republicans, we might be able to have a useful discussion.
