Democrats say and think they’ll stop ICE from abusing alleged illegal immigrants if and when they return to power. If history repeats itself, however, there is no reason to believe that. After all, Obama told Bush’s torturers they would never be held accountable.

Let’s not forget the other path to that same destination.
Right now, the New York mayoral race has a front-runner (Mamdani) who is young, progressive, and Muslim. His election to the office, despite his policies being grounded firmly in the air, would be a major reinvigoration of the party, and would make way for a viable presidential candidate in 2028 who wasn’t decided by Nancy Pelosi and the usual gang of superannuated idiots.
And the democrats are doing everything they can to stop him. The Old Guard (TM) — a handful of very rich boomers and silents — will simply not die already. They have outlived their usefulness by decades. They don’t have new ideas. They couldn’t even figure out that the easiest way to stop Trump, all those years earlier, was to simply back Sanders, who would almost certainly have been a one-termer due to his age and his non-Biden ego.
I don’t think there IS a democratic party anymore. Just that handful of doddering old fools who use it to ruin our lives for sport.
While it’s true that a great many of Trump’s first-term policies were just fine with the Blinken administration, I have to wonder if ICE, being composed largely of right-wing goons, would go along with being sent after their fellow right-wing goons. Or maybe we’re talking about those who are against genocide and for peace, as well as those demanding better treatment of labor and the poor and disadvantaged? That’s right up their alley, and they’re certainly people the DNC finds somewhat embarrassing.
