Columbia University became the latest huge academic institution to kowtow to Donald Trump’s shakedown, agreeing to pay him hundreds of millions of dollars so they can get their research funding back. As George Carlin said all those years ago, “You don’t need a formal conspiracy when interests converge.”
I look at the universities and all I see is smoothies who milked the system for a long time, getting very rich while enjoying very secure positions that, regardless of fuckuppery on their parts, led to more and more remuneration and advancement. An incestuous batch of people moving between jobs/titles/board positions at the intersection of government, education, and business. Donald Trump’s “threat” was kabuki theater, and everyone played along. Why? Because that’s what you do when you’re an “educator” at an Ivy League. Because that’s how you keep going to the bank. Just like any whore in a fake chinchilla coat shivering on a street corner will tell you.
