Biden, Trump and an Offer Zelenskyy Can’t Refuse

Of course it’s galling to see Donald Trump shake down his ally Ukraine for a massive share of its mineral resources. But let’s not forget, Joe Biden set the stage by offering assistance to Zelensky in the form of a loan rather than a grant.

One of the tropes in the movies and TV is when the character has a mental breakdown while everyone’s watching. Queeg, going on about the strawberries and conspiracies. Trump getting strawberry-red with hysteria because someone didn’t say thank you. Jack Nicholson chewing the scenery, screaming about the truth and who can handle it.

I’m a bit surprised at how obvious and forced this one was. Trump’s usually a little better at making it unclear as to whether it was an intentional scheme or just a spur-of-the-moment thing, which is necessary for protestations that he isn’t a bully. This whole thing, right up to Vance’s badly recited, poorly memorized lines, had the oily feel of a badly orchestrated scam.

  • Question: Who really started the war, Russia or the Ukraine?
    Answer: Neither.
What happened in the Oval Office?
Trump told Zelensky that he must sign over 50% of all the Ukraine’s mineral wealth to the US, then the US and Russia would negotiate a peace deal without the Ukraine, and Zelensky walked out before lunch. Had Zelensky agreed, 50% of all the Ukraine mineral wealth, including in the Donbass and Crimea, would be American, and the US would defend it to the maximum extent, but Zelensky wanted to dominate the negotiations with full support that America would start WWIII if Russia did not accept all of Zelensky’s terms.
