I wonder. If we’d simply let the epidemic run its course (and considering the number of people who wore their masks under their chins, with their noses uncovered, etc., etc., maybe our half-assed quarantine efforts amounted to little more than doing that in the first place), might it have finally forced the leadership’s owners to permit single-payer healthcare? Would the hospital wards choked with the dying, and the many YouTube videos of people talking about loved ones who couldn’t even get into the hospital because all the beds were filled, have been enough? Well, there’s always the next pandemic (and with climate change, don’t think they aren’t going start coming a lot faster).
