People from other countries used to dream of coming to the United States. Now even smart young people see few prospects for a bright future. Many of them are looking at their family trees to figure out whether they qualify for a foreign passport.

Oh, absolutely all of that. But let’s not forget the stress dreams triggered by the new Civil War and its almost certain guarantee of terrorism for the next few years at the very least. Last night I dreamed that protesters started deliberately derailing Amtrak trains because of its close association with Biden. Good luck “policing” all those miles of track, all those bridge approaches, all those railroad crossings, especially when so many of the police will be on the side of the insurrection. Our society functions because we almost all, implicitly, agree not to deliberately jam up the gears. Once that stops, we are all in big, big trouble.
