If Trump Launches a Coup D’état to Try to Stay in Power

Trump hasn’t only refused to concede to Biden. He is challenging election results, hoping to trigger the 12th amendment, and firing key officials who might resist his orders to impose martial law if he refuses to leave. What would the resistance look like? Not much.

    Oh, Ted, absolutely to everything you said-drew, but take it one level further. After the coup, what do we do with the traitors? Not “what should we do” but what do we actually end up doing with all the “good Americans” who were only “following orders”? Because they’re just as dangerous as the elected officials who aided and abetted Trump. For every Mitch McConnell and Rudy Guiliani, there’s hundreds of police officers and military types making sure people get disappeared. Unless we’re going to lock every single one of them up for the rest of their lives, and then institute real systemic changes at a fundamental level, why bother resisting in the first place? So we can put another Biden or Obama on the throne?

    • This is why revolutions end up being so bloody–because those who are in power refuse to give up peacefully. Most of the time revolutionary violence is decried…but what can you do, when the people you’ve revolted against are doing their worst? There are numerous instances of this in history.
