You’ll Come a Long Way, Baby. Well, Your Great-Great-Great-Granddaughter Will.

At current rates, a study finds, the global gender pay gap will close in 202 years. So there’s progress…but it’s too slow to do you any good.

  • Unfortunately true – societal change is a generational thing. I’ve seen a lot of progress just in my lifetime – we used to say, “Lady Doctor” because women were so rare in the profession – now we don’t think twice about it. We don’t say “Coed” any more – of course women go to college and nobody thinks they need a special label..

Your daughter will have it better than your mother did. Celebrate the progress even as we work towards a better future.

  • I keep coming back to this:
I am not, and I really mean that, trying to be a troll. But I keep asking myself the same question over and over, and if ANYONE can please, please, please give me a source to look at, I would appreciate it muchly:
If women are making something less than 100% of what men make, why are men hired at all?

Again: I am not asking this to be a troll. I have looked on the Google for this, and the answers are either wholly unsatisfying or of the “kill yourself, delete you account” variety.

  • The solution, Ted, is obviously for all wonen to emigrate to Laos. Or perhaps a bit of Lysistrate would cure what ails the body (pardon the pun !) politic ?…

  • In the long run we are all dead.

Only an Economic Fundamentalist could believe that in his afterlife (sometime after his life has ended) justice will prevail.

    Justice delayed is justice denied.

The swinging pendulum analogy encourages passively awaiting justice. The proper analogy is the tug o’ war; the one who sleeps gets dragged into the mud.

In the US, small infractions are punished harshly (broken windows law enforcement).

In France, small infractions against the people by the government are punished harshly (Yellow Vests).

    • “In France, small infractions against the people by the government are punished harshly (Yellow Vests).”

      Also, using broken windows enforcement.

Nothing says Pissed Off like broken windows.

Plus, disaster capitalism provides jobs for window repairmen and distributes money down from insurance company moguls to workers.

See? Disaster Capitalism (Naomi Klein) can make good paying work for unemployed repairmen, too, not only for the capitalist conqueror worms.
