I’d like to read a serious, well-written book about WW2 from the Soviet perspective. Not just military history, but the homefront, internal politics, living standards, etc.
Recommendations?

Darnitall, timed out or something…
Again, if you can find a copy “Siege and Survival: The Odyssey of a Leningrader” by Elena Skrjabina
Mine unfortunately fell apart and I reluctantly threw it away before my last move.
“Russia at War: 1941-45” by Vladimir Karpov is a quick and easy (sorta like a Time/Life edition, but in Russian originally) guide. Lots of photos you’ll never see anywhere else.
This is barely scratching the surface of that war on their Western Front. It also leaves out the Soviet-Japan War prior to WWII

Soviet-Finland War

And Soviet duplicity in invading Poland with the Wehrmacht in 1939

When it comes to the “Right Bastard of the Year Award for 1939” it’s a close call between Stalin and Hitler.
Ivan’s War is another good read. +1 to Russia at War.
Hello Ted Rall,
Not from Soviet perspective, but have you ever read “Human Smoke” by Nicholson Baker. Great book.
Just read your “Silk Road to Ruin”, “To Afghanistan and Back”, and mostly through “Anti-American Manifesto”. Been a big fan of your cartoons for years, recent fan of your books as well.
Thanks for kicking Obama’s ass! I live in Seattle and there are STILL ‘democrats’ and ‘progressives’ (god how I hate that wimpy word!) who defend his policies. It’s driving me mad, mad I tell you!
I have never signed up to be on a ‘blog’ before. I’m with you on the revolution. That makes two 40-something guys. OK, let’s go!
Cheers,
Mike
