I’ve noticed that a lot of people are unable to separate their personal opinion from a dispassionate evaluation of the situation. Regardless of which side I favor in this conflict, Israel has made some real bad moves. Just like when the dems allowed the crazy wing of the Republican Party to kick out McCarthy (“What? Certainly they’ll put in someone reasonable to serve as the next speaker. Right?”), Israel seems to have only evaluated this one move ahead. What really alarms me is that I don’t see how Israel can back off now. The only rational course now is for Bibi to basically make the Palestinians a landless people and push the survivors into Egypt, the capstone achievement of his political career.
