I am saddened by the loss of one of our most prolific and talented actors, Philip Seymour Hoffman. In 2011 I was asked to produce political cartoons for the George Clooney film “The Ides of March” and several of them included depictions of the character played by Hoffman. From what I hear, he got a kick out of it. Here it is:

Hoffman’s death is why more dangerous drugs should not be legalized.
Poor Hoffman. I remember watching him in “Doubt” and thinking how utterly, utterly believable his character was. Just a really great natural actor. I see in the news reports there’s strong suspicion that he’s merely part of the wave of deaths caused by a batch of heroin that was tainted/spiked/overloaded with fentanyl.
Another victim of our culture’s paranoid shortsightedness regarding drugs and addiction. If he’d been able to buy it in a pharmacy, he’d have gotten a pharmaceutic-grade product of known potency, not something whipped up wherever under who-knows circumstances and doctored with something that would kill him.
Hope the investigation leads to the C4 that brought it in. Dorme bene.
