The idea of women “stealing other women’s boyfriends” is so weird. It implies that men aren’t autonomous agents, that they are just weak creatures to be manipulated, and also that women can’t trust each other because it’s all about men. I’ve never understood who benefits from this idea, which is kind of equal-opportunity insulting.
Funny. I don’t think it implies that at all. Ah, perception.
This article is really typical. It comes from a person who does not understand attraction. It underscores the confusion most people know, and it illuminates nothing. There is nothing vexing about women liking bad boys and some intelligence and education don’t change mating cues.
You’re talking about the article. I’m talking about one phrase in the article and examining it outside of context. My point was that one cannot steal people unless they are somehow enslaved, and that referring to men being stolen by women from other women implies that men aren’t autonomous agents, which is silly.
I’ve known women to be attracted to men who weren’t good friends. I’ve been there myself. It can be a dangerous game, but I would never judge anyone for playing it, just to recognize it as such.
Women do get judged for being interested in men who are seen as “losers” in an economic sense, which is unfair to both parties concerned. Abusers is a whole ‘nother story.
“Boyfriend-stealing” is a meme that assumes men can’t help thinking with their dicks and that women’s top priority is finding a dreamy guy. Verrrrry 1950s.
