ANewDomain.net Column: My Fake French Birthplace and the NSA

I just did another column exclusively for ANewDomain.net. Please go there, check it out, read it, and if you like it, please recommend it to other people.

Websites like this, that pay good rates for original content to writers and cartoonists, have to be supported because if there’s any future for journalism, at least independent journalism, it’s going to be from people like you driving traffic to them that allows them to monetize it through advertising.

This column is pretty much about why big data is so dangerous. Even if you don’t think the current regime is going to bundle you up and send you off to a death, you never know what some future government might want to do with all that information.

  • I’m just wondering why you chose a German document to illustrate this article. This report tells of the “capture” from a Jewish children’s home called “Colonie Enfant” of 41 children from 3 years to 13 years of age, along with 10 other persons, the Jewish employees, 5 of whom were women, who could not present cash or other proof of finances. Somehow, I don’t think it is relative to your article about ‘big data.”

    • Well, I can’t read German. I knew that it had to do with Klaus Barbie, the so-called butcher of Lyon

I chose it because it’s documentation about and by a perpetrator of the Holocaust.

  • “Polls show that 55% to 59% of Americans disapprove of NSA spying on Americans who aren’t suspected of terrorism”

But most Americans ‘know’ that the NSA only spies on terrorists, so most Americans thoroughly approve of the NSA keeping us all safe by reading all the terrorists’ e-mails and monitoring all their phone calls.

Finding Americans who disapproved of killing millions of Dresdners/Vietnamese/Iraqis/other-foreigners-whose-deaths-advance-the-interests-of-American-business turns up only a small minority of left-wing/libertarian nut jobs. Every decent, patriotic American knows we have to kill every foreigner who stands in the way of the profits of any American business.

For that matter, if killing foreigners wins votes, let’s kill them. If Haliburton gets paid for foreigners’ deaths, let’s kill them. After all, foreigners aren’t Americans, so their deaths don’t matter at all, and are only to be regretted for any brave Americans who died while trying to kill them.

And since reading all the terrorists’ e-mails and monitoring all their phone calls keeps Americans safer, most Americans just say, ‘Do it!’

  • Okay, Ted – It makes a bit more sense to me now. I did a bit more research on that children’s home and discovered the following at http://www.spiegel.de/panorama/zeitgeschichte/ns-verbrecher-klaus-barbie-ich-bin-gekommen-um-zu-toeten-a-489560.html : “41 Verschleppte im Alter zwischen 3 und 13 Jahren starben wenig später in den Gaskammern von Auschwitz.” (Translation: “41 abductees between 3 and 13 years of age died a short time later in the gas chambers of Auschwitz.”) Good choice.
