an ambiguous patch of dirt and grass is a metaphor for america?

I thought it was the Donald’s wig tossed aside after his aborted tossing of the hat into the ring.
Ted, it looks like a dead and rotting squirrel to me — but I can’t connect with a metaphor for America. The U.S. is squirreley? The U.S. is dead and rotting? (But wouldn’t ANY dead and rotting animal be a metaphor?) This one’s over my head.
