Afghan Notebook #47

  • Mr. Rall:

You need to read more speculative fiction.

The roads the US built in Afghanistan are primarily for military purposes: to move US troops across Afghanistan.

Are there paved roads into the villages? Roads that farmers can use to get their crops to market? Or are there only major highways like the US Interstates built by Eisenhower only for military purposes (but then used for commercial purposes)?

Has any of the US-built infrastructure that you saw been strictly for the Afghanis?

But you were still much better reporters than those embedded. Which isn’t saying much, but it’s something.
